Adopt a Senior Pet

There is no better time to fall in love andmake shelter adoption your FIRST option!
The Connecticut Humane Society has dozens of mature pets looking for their forever home. Have you ever thought of adopting a senior pet? There are many advantages that mature pets provide which are often overlooked during the adoption selection process.
Senior pets…
…still need daily exercise, but not as much as young pets.
…have a tremendous amount of love to share and will reward you with unwavering devotion.
…have learned many of life's lessons and can be less challenging to train.
…understand proper "bathroom etiquette."
…can learn many "new tricks" and often make excellent pet assisted therapy animals.
…often fit into their new households with ease.
…make excellent companions for senior citizens and/or empty nesters.
…are the perfect choices for families that do not have the time to train young animals.
…are often overlooked because of puppies and kittens.
The Connecticut Humane Society has a number of incentives designed to help encourage the adoption of adult and mature pets.
1. Project Purr-Fect is still continuing and provides a $50 discount toward the adoption of any feline that is over one year old and has been looking for a new home for over 30 days.
2. Pets for Seniors provides a $50 discount towards the adoption of any dog or cat over the age of one year old to qualified adopters who are over the age of 60.
3. Our general adoptions program provides a discount to everyone for pets that are older than one year old and an even greater discount for pets that are over 8 years old.
So spread the word! Adopting a senior pet is a win-win for everyone involved. A faithful companion is gained, a friendship is formed and a life is saved!
