Pet Portraits Benefit Our Companions

Studio 970 Photography is working on their 3rd annual calendar contest fundraiser to benefit Our Companions Animal Sanctuary. Our Companions is a non-profit rescue that generates funds through various fundraisers and direct donations from the public and businesses. Each year Studio 970’s calendar contest and studio pet portrait sessions becoming more and more popular.
Our Companions recognizes that in our state there are so many healthy pets that are facing euthanasia due to homelessness and easily corrected behavioral problems. Many also face euthanasia from basic health issues that can be easily corrected. Our Companions believes there is the right home for EVERY pet. They work hard to create homes and to help correct behavioral and health issues in homeless pets.
In the future Our Companions will offer Connecticut’s first Pet Resource Center with a sanctuary on 43 generously donated acres. There will be a spay/neuter clinic, low cost training, community center, dog park and much more.
Studio 970 owners, Paulette Mertes and Lisa Asp who are avid animal lovers with rescued dogs of their own, are well aware of the pet overpopulation problem in Connecticut. They have been raising thousands of dollars for Our Companions over the past few years to help with their long term goal of a complete pet sanctuary in Ashford.
Our Companions relies strictly on donations, as they are not government funded in any way. So each year Lisa and Paulette donate their time, equipment and talents for pet studio sessions, which are held valentines day through the end of February, donating the profits to Our Companions. Studio 970 then includes all of the portraits taken during that time in the photo contest for a calendar the following year.
This year the public was invited to vote at the cost of a $1 donation to Our Companions. The profits generated from the votes helps cover the cost of printing the calendars. Winners are being announced, one per week, each Friday on the Studio 970 blog at www.studio970.com. There will be a total of 14 winners for a 12 month calendar, as well as a front and back cover. Once all of the winners are announced and the covers chosen, Our Companions will have the calendars printed and offer them for sale for a minimum donation of $15. All the profits generated from the calendar sales are kept by Our Companions.
The calendars will be available by September and make excellent gifts for animals lovers for the upcoming holiday season. The calendars can be obtained by making a donation online at www.ourcompanions.org or by calling 860-242-9999.
