Wetbone, Water to Go... CT Residents Design Doggy Water Bottle Sold Nationwide

By Tamara Sevigny

Long time Connecticut residents Sue Tyska of Manchester and Anthony Tropea of New Britain have designed a revolutionary portable water "drink box" for dogs. The Wetbone, Water to Go hydration system is a bone-shaped, 16 oz. vitamin enriched purified water bottle for pets.
The convenient pouch also serves as a water bowl. The pouch is leak resistant and can be resealed for later use. "Today’s pet parents want what’s best for their children, specially when it comes to enduring a healthy lifestyle," said Sue Tyska, co-founder. "Wetbone is a convenient, healthy means for hydrating dogs anytime – anywhere."
"The number of Americans owning a pet is on the rise," adds Tropea, "Likewise, the number of families vacationing with their dogs is also on the rise. We have developed a product that meets the needs of both the pet and fast-paced lifestyle of the average owner."
The convenient packaging allows pet owners to simply tear the strip off the top of the pouch and open the press-to-close zipper and fill the top "bowl" by squeezing the bottom of the pouch with one hand and holding open the top. The water travels through the patent-pending four-channel delivery system and can travel back down the same system for later use.
Tyska and Tropea have been in product development for quite some time, and are the recipients of many awards. They were recognized in 2006 by Time magazine for Invention of the Year: Kids Products.
"We were always looking for a "fast growing" market to develop products and noticed no one was really doing anything for the "water for dogs" segment and we brainstormed and ended up with Wetbone." Plus, the product hits home, as they are both pet people. "I've always had dogs, as a child and bringing my 3 kids up...Springer Spaniel, Poodle/Terrier, Bishon Frise and now my Beau.... Soft Wheaton Terrier," Tyska said. Growing up, Tony also had dogs; a farm dog, Golden Retriever and a mutt.
Single, ready to use pouches and multi-packs are available nationwide at Petsmart stores (including Manchester, New London, Norwalk, Plainville and Waterbury), some specialty retailers, health food chains, outdoor sporting stores and convenience stores.
Soon look for Wetbone Dental and Wetbone Sport, as well as a new pouch design including a clip for added portability.
