2007 Wapping Fair Moving To New Location
Larger Space Will Bring New Attractions

After more than 30 years at Rye Street Park, the South Windsor Jaycees’ Wapping Fair will have a new home in 2007.
The fair’s new location behind LA Fitness at Evergreen Walk in South Windsor will be approximately 43,000 square feet bigger than Rye Street Park, which is roughly an acre of additional land for the 115 year old event, which takes place September 6 – 9. In addition to Rye Street Park, the fair has been held in several locations over the years, including Hall’s Grove, the Wapping School and Zagorski Park.
According to Chairman Paul Petrillo, the additional space will give the Wapping Fair much needed room for new attractions. "Fairgoers will still find the traditional favorites that they’ve come to expect each year, but we’re really looking to expand the fair and bring in some new elements for 2007 and beyond", said Petrillo, adding that the bigger space and additional attractions require more volunteers to run the fair. Organizations and individuals interested in volunteering for this year’s fair should email FriendsOfTheFair@aol.com
With the larger space, the fair is looking forward to having even more local businesses and community groups become a part of the event by displaying their services and goods to fair goers. Last year the Wapping Fair had more than 50 businesses and expectations are high that number will grow considerably. In past years banks, realtors, home party planners, travel agents, fudge makers and more all participated.
Many new and exciting entertainment options will be added to Wapping Fair this year, including a Kiddie Land, a professional juggler, Mad Science and other interactive attractions. Local entertainers and groups who want to show off their skills, including magicians, musicians, dance and karate schools and gymnastics programs, are encouraged to contact Kim Caldwell @ 203-649-0491 about performing at the fair.
Back by popular demand will be Robinson's Racing Pigs- The Paddling Porkers! Watch as they swim across a 20' pool hoping to get their version of a pot of gold--an Oreo cookie!
After dark on Saturday night witness the fireworks display, the likes of which you have never seen. Fairgoers raved about the 2006 show and this year's promises to be even better.
Bring out the whole family on Sunday for Family Fun Day. We will feature Ronald McDonald at noon and 2 p.m. and the Magic of Christopher from 1-4:30pm, as he mystifies both young and old with his array of tricks. In addition, there will be countless games, contests and other activities for families to do together. Sunday is also ride bracelet day, so ride for hours at one low price. For the older kids, our carnival rides will make your hair stand on end and for the younger kids, a variety of small amusement and pony rides are waiting.
Check the entertainment schedule for numerous other events such as country and rock band performances, doodlebug and farm tractor pulls, karate and dance school exhibitions, contests (skillet throwing, pie eating, and many more) and a host of other attractions that will have you and your family entertained day and night.
Does the Wapping Fair have plenty of food? Boy, do we!! The fair has a variety of different foods for all to enjoy, including hot dogs and hamburgers, pizza, baked potatoes, Harvest Soup, BBQ sandwiches and much, much more!
The South Windsor Jaycees, who have run the Wapping Fair since 2001, use the proceeds to fund many community projects during the course of the year, including the purchase of a new police dog for the South Windsor Police Department, the South Windsor Community Foundation’s ropes course, new training equipment for the South Windsor Fire Department and a new barrier-free playground.
More than 30,000 people started or renewed a tradition by visiting the Wapping Fair in 2006...why not do the same with your family and friends in 2007?
