Fishing for a pet?

By Tamara Sevigny

"Mystic without the admission" is what people are saying about Aquatic Wildlife in Manchester. This shop features wall-to-wall aquariums, over 300 tanks in all and over 11,000 gallons of water on the sales floor. The tanks feature various themes from around the world including Caribbean, reef, fresh and saltwater, even African setups. This allows customers and visitors to see the many varieties and options available when setting up an aquatic environment and giving a true "aquarium" experience.
"We’re focused on keeping fish growing as a hobby," says owner Derek Marder. Aquatic Wildlife has only been open for business for six months, but plans to get very involved in the community and schools. They will be offering programs through libraries and other community services. And by donating tanks to schools they hope to inspire children’s interest in fish and biology. They would like to see more children involved in fish as a hobby, spending less time on video games, computers and television.
"We really focus more on biology than technology," says Marder. Aquatic Wildlife focuses on educating their customers on their aquatic choices rather then trying to sell them on all the bells and whistles available for aquarium setups. Not that they don’t offer all the bells and whistles. Aquatic Wildlife offers all types of displays and furniture from all over the world, another unique aspect of their shop.
Aquatic furniture is becoming more and more popular as people are starting to get different furniture and setups in their homes from in-wall aquariums to coffee table aquariums and other various shapes of aquarium stands. And Aquatic Wildlife offers in-home setups, taking the pressure off of the new fish owners. Their aquatic setups are not limited to indoors, however, they offer outdoor pond setups as well, which are also available for viewing at the shop.
Aquatic Wildlife is truly an interactive, dynamic experience for the whole family. If you are new to fish keeping or experienced, the expertise and variety at Aquatic Wildlife will have what you need and be able to answer your questions. Whether you are visiting or shopping they are a definite "must see," even worth a special trip to Manchester.
Aquatic Wildlife is located at 179D Deming Street, Manchester, in the Panera plaza and open 7 days a week. For more information and directions call 860-648-1166.
