Fur Ball Festivities

One of the oldest and most respected animal-rescue organizations in Connecticut, Protectors of Animals celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.
POA is a non-profit, all volunteer, no-kill organization whose mission is to rescue stray and abandoned domestic animals, and to promote animal spaying and neutering. POA also seeks to combat cruelty to animals and educate the public on humane treatment and care of them.
A small but dedicated organization boasting only 900 members, POA is run by a staff of 75 volunteers. This year, the annual Fur Ball fundraiser netted close to $20,000 for the organization, which will support POA’s spay and neutering program, as well as the care and feeding of rescued animals.
"Next to spaying and neutering more cats and dogs," says POA’s Linda Williams, "our biggest goal is to find a permanent home for all rescued animals." The organization is currently renting space, and is looking to buy a property in the Glastonbury area.
POA’s next fundraiser is on May 5th at Tastebuds in East Hartford. An evening of a wine tasting and light dining will feature a silent auction. For more information, please call (860) 569-0722.
